Review of Thirteen Days (2000) by Mark O — 13 Jan 2008
Pretty good. There are some historical inaccuracies but nothing too major. It has a nice escalation of tension throughout the movie. I liked the way that neither of the Kennedy brothers were the lead character but instead we watch them through someone else's eyes.
There is a surprisingly sympathetic grasps of the Russian view of the crisis and the Pentagon Military chiefs are repeatedly portrayed was war mongers escalating the crisis. So not your typical gung-ho "we're right you're not!" American movie.
Not really having any portrayal of the Russian side might be seen as bit of a downside. However having them played out as a kind of complicated black box with the characters trying to guess what's going on inside was something that I liked.
