Review of Thirteen Days (2000) by Sw C — 18 Aug 2008
I certainly do not think that this is the most accurate historical depiction we have seen on screen and you can see where people can pick performances and character portrayals apart but in the end I will not be doing either because here is a rare two and a half hour long movie that engaged me from start to finish. For that reason I will dispense with any concerns about realism and just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Personally I thought that the three lead men did a great job in making my favorite scenes be those involving those three and none others. On a negative note I did not get the use of black and white at all and if anyone can care to tell me why random scenes are shot monotone I would be happy to listen. If there is some symbbolism there it is lost on me.
Will it blow you away? Probably not, but it makes for an interesting docu-drama.
