Review of Thirteen (2003) by M D — 24 Jun 2009
As obvious product of the MTV generation both stylistically and contextually, two teenage girls engage in relentless exercise of self destruction in the debut film of Twilight director Hardwicke. In an immature attempt at growing up, Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed deal in crime, drugs, and sex in a façade of friendship.
Against a cast of soulless and self obsessed characters each with complete disrespect for anyone, and a family as blatant creation of a pleasure seeking society, the duo encounter problems beyond their youth.
While initially scattered and over done, the filmâ??s content holds out despite the technical distractions.
