Review of Thirteen (2003) by Krystle L — 30 Jun 2009
Wow, I really am disturbed, not sure what to make of this film. It was very well done but it's hard to enjoy when the main character angers me so much. I know it's a reflection of youth in society today, but you're supposed to relate or at the very least enjoy the protagonist not get pissed off and alienated much like she appeared to be.
And whats more, the thought of wrist fillet is rather offputting. If all teenage angst is projected in such a manner then I don't want children. But she was such a surrender monkey, trying to be popular, people like that I detest and pity, so foolish.
If this film was trying to get me concerned about young people by making me very angry then it sure succeeded. I just wish I could have related more with the subject matter, I guess I was less impressionable at 13.
