Review of Thirteen (1988) by Kaitlin L — 25 Jan 2019
Evan Rachel Wood should have won an Oscar for this role. She is beautiful in this film, as are Holly Hunter and Nikki Reed. One of the most powerful films I have ever seen, which captures the complex and self sabotaging anguish that preteen girls feel.
That feeling of being not anchored in anything or anybody is embodied in Woodï¿ 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2(TM)s incredible performancence. And Hunter deserved an Oscar for her painfully nonplussed character Melanie.
I cried when I first saw this film at 15 and now at 29 it still moves me to tears.
