Review of Think Like a Man (2012) by Jeff S — 26 Dec 2012
It's not the best romantic comedy I've seen. There are too many characters and stories, in my opinion, and I just think maybe the elimination of one or two couples would've been nice. It's not overly funny, although Kevin Hart brightens almost every scene he's in with his stream-of-conscious comedic rants. The most hilarious scene to me was his bathroom scene after he calls his wife. It's also funny just seeing him standing next to other cast members because you get a great feel of exactly how tiny he is and his size also plays up the funny factor. I agree with other assessments, that sometimes this movie feels like a big infomercial for Steve Harvey's book, especially in the beginning when the female characters are quoting it and passing it around.
It's not gut-busting hilarious (and I didn't really expect it to be), but I definitely think it's a step up from what we've seen in black romantic comedies which have largely been populated by the Tyler Perry Factory. It's more sophisticated and trying to go in a different direction and I respect that.
