Just mawkish and annoying. Full of 12 step shit that seems to have the deeply helpful theory that once you are an addict you are an addict for life. So you could be great for 50 years, have a year on crack and that's your label forever according to this philosophy.
But I digress, that's just an annoyance in general but not really the films fault, i'm sure it's a true portrayal. It's a fine watch for a sunday afternoon if you happen to have a benicio crush like me otherwise avoid like the plague.
His performace was good though I think the cold turkey bit was a tad overdone. For someone who cries at anything including the Simpsons I stayed dry eyed throughout this. Interesting to note that If you watch the footage of Ms Berry winning Miss teen Ohio (or whatever) beauty pageant she cries more in that then at the grief of losing her husband in this film.
