Review of Things We Lost in the Fire (2007) by Laura M — 05 Sep 2008
Well, Hollywood attempts grit yet again with the impossibly pretty and impossibly mediocre Halle Berry. Why is it that for one split-second we bought her as the grieving mother in Monster's Ball? She gives an almost identical performance in this film except that her character is better educated and rolling in glorious suburban money.
Del Toro, on the other hand, is truly touching. It's so strange that a man with a name meaning bull (right?) is capable of such delicacy and credibility. He is really excellent.. So-so movie with good intentions and occasional chemistry between the leads.
