Review of Thief (1981) by Brian M — 03 Jan 2009
Michael Mann shows that he can do character development as well as great visuals. Caan plays a single-minded diamond thief who makes a "deal with the devil" by breaking his 'lone-wolf' credo to work for a local mafioso played by William Prosky.
When Caan gets pushed into a corner he pushes back with a ferocity that will stun you. This film includes a surprisingly good supporting actor role, played by Willie Nelson, great art direction, superb editing and a killer soundtrack by Tangerine Dream.
Rent this - I bet you'll buy it.
