Review of They're Watching (2016) by Ryleigh J — 22 Sep 2018
I love found footage movies. They can be either really cheesy or really good, and however they turn out, I usually enjoy watching them. As such, I thoroughly enjoyed the first hour or so of They're Watching.
The characters' escapades in the middle of nowhere in Moldova were entertaining, and it was at least decently creepy. For 90% of the movie, this was a successful found footage film. After that, it felt like someone else was writing the script.
The plot went way out into left field and the more it went on, the worse it got. All of a sudden, a good movie had turned into the Blair Witch Project, but cheesier and with more special effects. I haven't been this disappointed in a movie's ending in a long time.
If it had stayed in line with the rest of the movie, it would have been a good horror movie; if the whole thing had been cheesy, I would have enjoyed how terrible it was. Instead, They're Watching just got my hopes up and then murdered them with poorly rendered lightening and frogs.
