One of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. The cast is brilliant. Red Buttons breaks your heart. Suzanna York and Bonnie Bedelia -- try not crying. It's an amazing character study. Gig Young is just such a slime, but at the same time so desperate -- he's brilliant in this. It really pictures the true, grim life that was the Great Depression. The film belongs to Jane Fonda and Michael Sarrazin who are both exquisite. Beyond amazing. I can't rave enough by it.

Goodbye Sydney Pollack, you will be missed. Thank you for this perfect film.

The movie is 2 hours long, and for the last 90 minutes you sob. Try not crying when you see Bruce Dern dragging pregnant Bonnie Bedelia in the race. And try not to cry when Jane Fonda is yelling at Red Buttons about how she's tired of losing. Ugh! Heartbreaking.
