Review of They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) by Benjamin S — 28 May 2009
Terrific moving making! Every actor is superb, Jane Fonda turns in another great performance, followed by a subtle performance by Susannah York and an Oscar winning performance by Gig Young. The title of the film matches precisely the mood and atmosphere of the story and it shows the tough times of the depression and the lengths to which people will go to just to get what they feel is a little happiness in life by winning an amount of money.
Cynical and brilliant. Sydney Pollack's direction brings tension and suspense and it works marvelously. A must see!
