Review of They Live (1988) by Louis E — 16 Oct 2009
All right it's a 80's flick, and I hate to admit it, but Rowdy Rowdy Piper can act! All right, now I got you're attention, this can, arguably, be the first Matrix movie. He "sees" the "truth" and he sacrifices himself.
All right, there is a bladant 25-30 minute scene of Rodney Piper wrestling and doing his wrestling moves on another guy. The direction is not noteworthy; the only acting worth mentioning is Rowdy Piper, and I contend he can act.
Anyway, the absolute best line in this movie and possibly any movie ever made(and one I repeated and watch over and over again) was the line, "I've come to kick ass and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of bubble gum.
" This line alone is worth watching this movie. However, I got to watch it for free on Comcast, so it was a cheap 2 hours for me, but it sort of was ahead of it's time for it's time of release, and it addresses our constant need for media and the drowning concept of indiependent thought.
It is really quite a trailblazing ovie from a philosophical point of view, but the only problem was it was made on a low budget and a B lead actor at best..... but it was great for a Friday night blast from the past.
.. Check it out if you can.....
