Review of They Live (1988) by Paul B — 29 Jul 2009
I keep this movie in the 'fresh' only because the premise of the film is pretty cool; and because if you haven't seen this movie, you have to just to see it for yourself.
But please...an unemployed construction guy takes on an alien race that has controlled humans for who knows how long!?
The movie could be a WWF "Rowdy Roddy Piper" vs. "The dumb-ass aliens." Some of the craziest and frustrating parts of this movie are the inability of the aliens to catch the main character. It actually takes away action opportunities. Fricking incredible!!
The effects are horrible, the acting horrible, the action unbelievably horrible; especially the last scenes with the M-16 firing close-ups to keep costs down (i'm laughing as I'm typing).
There are a few decent one-liners to enjoy ("..and I'm all out of bubble-gum") and the human realization scenes at the end are funny; especially "Naked girl.".
I can't stop laughing. Watch and see for yourself.
