Review of They Live (1988) by Rocknblues 8 — 29 Dec 2009
This film is great and unique. It's great because it is and it's unique because it doesn't sit on the fence. Hey you might not agree with it but at the fact that it's no fence sitter is undeniable and considering that almost every other movie made is sitting on a fence (It would would be REALLY big fence) it's something that should be celebrated and it's a shame that there aren't enough producers out there who for what ever reason don't make movies that have opinions which, shall we say, are a bit left of field that aren't bland and boring and have fight scenes. Yeah the fight scene goes a bit long but jeez that ain't bad.
The fight scene isn't that bad, I mean there's that scene when Rowdy Roddy swings and misses his mate and the bat goes through the back wind screen, only Rowdy turns to his mate with an apologetic glance as if to say 'Shit, sorry'. I mean that's my enduring memory of the film and let's face it, you don't get that pathos (I don't know what that word means, I figure I'll just put it in there just to make myself all intellectual blah, blah, blah) like that in film, well not since the John Ford in the '50s but at least in this film you're spared the sing song which every film seem to have in the '50s. I mean lets sing a song! Yeee haaaa.
