Review of They Come to America (2012) by Runce L — 07 Nov 2012
I picked up a copy at Radio Row at the RNC. No one seemed to be interested, but I gave it a shot.
It was manipulative in using the big issue to get you interested and the small stories to get across sentimental points about illegal immigration. However, the stories were usually exceptions to the rule and distracted from the point.
It was also simply made, and seemed to focus a lot on the director and his narrative. Regardless, the issue is very important and complicated. It does manage to cover both sides, sadly not always fairly. It did make me curious about Lynch's original film and why it was a success.
