Review of They Came Together (2014) by Shawn S — 25 May 2015
While director David Wain hasn't made any blockbuster films, when he and Paul Rudd get together like they did in Role Models, the comedic genius comes out ever so slightly.
They Came Together easily gets laughs strictly from the cast of characters. There are plenty of cameos and additions to warrant a watch. Plus, it helps that the crew is having a blast acting out all the typical tropes of rom-coms. This film really makes it a point to draw out all the typical themes of those movies, but where it sags in the plot is because of this. Quite frankly, they try and mash too many of the jokes into the film and use one joke one too many times.
It's sort of rushed in the end to really sneak under that 90 minute mark, and not for any particular reason, but probably better it ended sooner than later. Paul Rudd and Amy Pohler are a great comedy duo and show they have a great friendship on and off the screen time and time again. Watch it for the cast.
