Review of They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970) by Brad G — 18 Feb 2010
This sequel to the excellent In The Heat of The Night abandons the originals racial issues to explore the family life of Sidney Poitierâ??s earnest Detective Virgil Tibbs. Well, thatâ??s really the B plot, but itâ??s far more interesting than the A story involving Martin Landauâ??s shady Reverend and the murder of a prostitute.
The A Story plays like a so-so episode of Law & Order: SVU (â??Found semen on the carpetâ?¦more on the table hereâ?¦hereâ??s some on the bedâ??) but I found Tibbsâ?? frustrated relationship with his son and frisky dealings with his wife to be a nice little glimpse behind the curtain.
An entertaining but itâ??s definitely not the classic of the original movie. Not VF.
