Review of Thesis (1996) by Carlos P — 04 Dec 2007
This first film from Alejandro Amenabar is a fitting preview into his career and ideology. The story about a university student who uncovers a sinister snuff film ring at her school is genuinely suspenseful and uncomfortable, playing with issues of voyeurism and the sensationalization of violence in the media.
A bit too Hollywood conventional, but a great start for this revered director.
