Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Joey S — 28 Dec 2012
A dark story of greed, power, and corruption, There Will Be Blood is a good movie made great by the gripping performances of Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano, but it is still not Paul Thomas Anderson's best movie.
There isn't really much progression of the plot aside from the movie transitioning to years in the future, but the purpose of the movie is to show Daniel Day-Lewis' Daniel Plainview steadily growing more evil and mad with power, so it's really more of a character study than a straight-forward narrative movie anyways.
The movie is often very slow paced, but the acting keeps it relatively interesting throughout the movie. All in all, There Will be Blood is a great movie by Paul Thomas Anderson, but not necessarily his best one.
His ensemble drama Boogie Nights still stands out as superior to his more recent character studies like this and The Master.
