Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Dylan V — 24 Mar 2013
I do not fear movie characters. No matter how unsettling or creepy they may be, the actor always seems to make them cartoonish or unrealistic in some way that I am able to latch onto in order to not be affected by them.
Not so with Daniel Plainview. No, Daniel Day Lewis makes this character as real as the person sitting next to me in the theater, and that makes him truly unsettling. A great performance in a great movie.
Fully deserving of an Oscar (though I've only seen one of the other nominees so I'm no expert on the subject).
