Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Chanel M — 11 Jul 2013
A true american masterpiece about wealth and ambition and greed. Daniel is an oil man who clashes with a self-worshiping priest when he moves into a barren town and discovers a gold mine of oil. This film has a powerful message of capitalism and how it destroys a mans soul. As Daniel is driven to succeed and out-compete everybody, he becomes alienated from the human race and even his own son, who is his closest partner and the only true love left in his heart. The film is told by long and wordless.
segments inter spaced with intense long dialogue scenes. Daniel Day Lewis is fascinating and powerful every moment he is on screen, and he is on screen almost the whole movie. There is a suspense and horror quality to the musical score that gives the viewer and unsettling feeling of a curse being set in motion as the oil industry begins to transform America and eventually the world. There is dark humor sprinkled throughout the film, especially in the films conclusion, where he has his final confrontation with the.
Priest. Lets just say that the title There Will be Blood, has many contexts. It is both a religious fire and brimstone title, and a title for black blood, the blood of the earth, and a title for human blood as well! This film is one of the greatest works of art ever made, right up there with classics like Gone with the Wind, I loved it!
