Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by J.e. A — 27 Sep 2013
I don't think it can be understated just how truly great There Will Be Blood is, it is no doubt a modern American classic. P.T. Anderson wrote and directed this riveting American fable about the moral decadence of businessmen and common people alike at the turn of the century.
This film has a very bleak outlook on past and modern American society; everyone craves only to have money and power, the businessmen, and also, ministers who cloth their greed in the gospel and faith.
And Anderson creates an eerie atmosphere that is ambiguous in that you can never truly decipher whether anything that happens is good or bad. Then there's Daniel Day-Lewis, whose performance is nothing short of spectacular in the way he delves so deeply into the darkness that is boiling to the surface of Daniel Plainview's soul; his performance is one of the greatest in the history of cinema, which only adds one more level onto the artistic masterwork that is There Will Be Blood.
Every american should see and want to see this film, because it is one of the most thorough examinations of the heritage that lead us to today ever put to screen.
