Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Andrew O — 21 Jun 2015
A phenomenal piece of cinema. This movie is not for everyone, as the slow burn can make people turn away fast. it's 2 and a half hours, and there is no action and barely any violence. It's all talking, yet the cinematography, directing, writing, and PHENOMENAL ACTING make this movie beyond watchable.
Daniel Day-Lewis gives one of the best acting performances of all time, and Paul Dano also gives an absolutely underrated performance. These two actors butt heads in this movie that really makes you think.
It's a character study of both Daniel Plainview and Eli Sunday, and the study is so detailed that you aren't sure who the main protagonist or antagonist is. You have to be prepared to watch this movie, but if you can withstand the slow pace, then you should be engaged 100% of the time.
The final scene is also one of my favorite scenes in movie history, and it's impact can not be felt unless you watch the whole movie. I love this movie, because unlike people to Daniel Plainview, this movie is something worth liking.
9.75/10.
