Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Brian R — 03 Feb 2013
I didn't like this movie at all. PTA is a very skilled storyteller but this film I felt was way out of his comfort zone. I also felt Daniel Day-Lewis's performance was overrated but of course the norm easily admired his performance.
I also disliked the oil vs religion theme and how Day-Lewis intimidates Paul Dano just for the sake of it, H.W. Plainview, and Eli. Is Anderson trying to play with my mind here? It's very annoying imo.
The oilman Plainview has no empathy in his heart so how could I admired a picture that is about a lousy, greedy oil driller? The picture has very little to say about it's community and the women who live and work in town.
The ending is purely a cop out and I was left feeling disappointed.
