Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by Jim F — 24 May 2013
Daniel Day Lewis is oustanding and a tad terrifying as this no nonsense oil man. I love the subject matter, the setting being a western setting but not being a western. It really stands alone, and is a classic.
It shows the emergence of conflict of business and the church. And in this expressed so well between DDL and Paul Dano as Eli Sunday. Both performances thoroughly enjoyable. Fabulous scenes, such as the Plainview baptism had me in stitches.
Magnificent lines, capture my attention, especially when getting to know his brother, or should I say , letting his brother get to know him."I don't like to explain myself." "I see the worst in people.
" "Times I look at people and see nothing worth liking". There is just as much enjoyable script to be found in this as there is in the very best Scorsese picture, and that says something.
