Review of There Will Be Blood (2007) by John T — 08 Jan 2014
The English language has no superlatives sufficient enough to adequately commend the magnitude of Daniel Day-Lewis' performance. The viewer is left silenced at an acting performance that is brutally raw and almost miraculous in its emotional representation.
The title of the movie seems to be the best way to describe the colossal dedication invested by Day-Lewis for the breeding of his rapacious character, Daniel Plainview, for the screen. Adulation for his performance, however, should not gloss over the greatness of the film itself.
With inspired cinematography, eerie sound design, masterful production design and powerful screenplay, P.T Anderson exposes the treacherous and terrifying underpinnings of the capitalistic system that we all live so incognizantly comfortably under.
