Review of There Be Dragons (2011) by Michael N — 10 May 2011
I found it to be a powerful movie, the characters were real and the conflicts touched the core of those forced to live in those times. And while there are a lot of unresolved issues as to the war, the message that Manolo's life screams to the audience is compelling.
Put aside the genuine concern of Escriva, the film asks us all to ponder the choices we have made and the effect of those choices. and further can we be reconciled to those we have hurt? Is there a chance for true repentance? Or is the bitterness of the young Manolo all there is? The film challenges us to think about it.
The acting is good. The emotions seem very real. The back and forth between the present and the past is done well. I recommend it.
