Review of Thelma & Louise (1991) by Pradeep N — 03 Aug 2010
I had heard so much about this film but I never got to see it. Well, finally I do and hell yeah, it was a great film! Well 'great' in the sense, it was pure fun, unadulterated wildness and luckily, the jokes worked. I have rarely seen funny people in a Ridley Scott film but this comes as an exception. I wanted a bit more of Madsen in the latter half of the film (I just like him, that's all) but considering the bit role he had, I guess not. Pitt irritated me at times but his supporting act surely boasted of talent that just got better through the 90's. Christopher McDonald was goofily funny. But the big winners of the film were definitely Thelma and Louise (played by Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon respectively). My o my...Geena Davis is hot! Hans Zimmer's music was just perfect for the great American landscape shot so beautifully frame after frame, by ace cinematographer, late Adrian Biddle. Most importantly, a big smile for old dawg Scott for having made a film sans all the 'heavy'ness (both in terms of style and content) that his films are so patently characterised by.
A true 'cult' film of the 90's and rightly so!
