Review of Thelma & Louise (1991) by Jennifer X — 26 Jan 2009
It's pretty much a classic feminist road movie, and a good one at that, but a few things make it a little less than traditional: 1. revelations are a natural vicissitude of the situation, rather than any shocking form of epiphany 2.
Thelma's transformation from meek housewife to asskicking criminal doesn't even try to be subtle, but it's organic in some way, 3. Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon are extraordinary people, and that's what distinguishes them from the masses of copycats.
