Review of Thelma & Louise (1991) by Tomek S — 14 Jul 2009
A female road movie - big yay for this. It's apparently very simplistic and shallow but there's lots of deep symbolism below. It was not as much of "Thelma and Louise" as of 'Thelma vs.
Louise" - you can easily notice how opposing are the approaches shared by each of the main charaters. While Louise is mistrustful, smart and strong, Thelma represents the gullible, "stupid but beautiful", fragile one who brings all of the trouble but eventually her feminist consciousness awakens as the movie is coming to end.
It's brilliant how this change can be observed not only in the development of the plot but also in small details like clothes, language, and behaviour (pay attention to cigarettes!). simply, a great job, as it is both entertaining and deep.
