Review of Thelma & Louise (1991) by David S — 02 Mar 2013
Thelma & Louise is far from Ridley Scott's best, but the subject matter is very different and risky at the time it came out. Coming out in the early 90s, this movie is definitely fun to watch as two women grow and learn from shared misfortunes and experiences.
Their friendship manifests into something deeper as they rebel against a society somewhat run by men. This movie portrays the plight of the two protagonists as something heroic and morale boosting. However, it is nothing more than two people committing crimes and finishing it in the style of a martyr.
Others would see it as silly and scorn the two, regardless of their social stance. It is a good movie and has some exciting thrills, but is far from as profound as it tries to be.
