Review of Thelma (2011) by Carmen B — 28 Aug 2014
Although Maja Salvador proves a revelation in her tomboyish portrayal of the lead, Paul Soriano's direction of the film is largely inconsistent with hints of both brilliance and immaturity scattered throughout the film.
Some shots were grossly amateurish, unsteady camera takes during important scenes, and attempt at humor to lighten a heavy-footed drama generally flops. Music and sound direction though, was adequate and the acting is desirable.
However, these could not save the film from the inconsistency of the direction and the obviously contrived attempt to establish a movie "na may aral na mapupulot" to fit mainstream cinema na pang-masa.
