Based on the international best-seller by Diane Ackerman, The Zookeeper's Wife, is the incredible true story of a woman risking her family's life to save hundreds of Jews during World War II. Set in 1939 Poland, Antonina ?abi?ski (Jessica Chastain,) along with her husband, Dr. Jan Zabinski (Johan Heldenbergh) operate the Warsaw Zoo, the largest & most prolific zoo in 1930s Europe, where they give loving care to a variety of animals. Antonina's world is rocked when she & her son Ryszard (Timothy Radford & later, Val Maloku) witness the horrific death of innocent zoo animals by bombs dropped by the German army who have overtaken Warsaw. Dr. Latz Heck, the head of the Berlin Zoo & "Hitler?s zoologist" (Daniel Bruhl) soon arrives at the zoo to take possession of the finest of the animals. Antonina reluctantly allows him to take them in the hope that they will survive. With Warsaw under full control of the Nazis & the safety of all Jews living in the city, including their Jewish friends Maurycy Fraenkel (Iddo Goldberg) & his partner Magda Gross (Efrat Dor) in peril, Antonina & Jan decide to hide Magda in their attic closet. Realizing that they can not just save one life but are compelled to save as many people as possible, Antonina & Jan decide to use the zoo as a hideaway for seeking for safe passage out of Warsaw. Directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Angela Workman, The Zookeeper's Wife is an intensely moving & riveting story of heroism in the face of monstrous tyranny. It is important to be reminded about the courageous efforts of individuals to fight against the powerful forces of injustice & oppression.The performances from the cast were powerful & captivating. The Zookeeper's Wife is a tough film to get though because of subject matter, but it you want an inspiring film then SEE THIS FILM.
