Review of The Zero Theorem (2013) by Lee C — 30 May 2014
Terry Gilliam films are the most unique gifts in that they follow no preconceived idea but Gilliams own creative narrative which mostly asks the viewer to work hard with his films. This seems to chase most people off apart from diehard fans which is a massive shame as his films are the antithesis of big blockbuster fare that offers the same soulless product over and over again. He has a vision and solidly sticks to it and in Zero Theorem he makes us work very hard. Gilliam films contain weird and wonderful characters, eccentric and colourful and full of foibles creating surreal situations in a world cluttered with meaningful objects and happenings. How can you not be enchanted with this most cinematic of directors?
Zero Theorem has all this but maybe lacks the drive of 12 monkeys or Brazil.
