Review of The Zero Theorem (2013) by Govind D — 03 Aug 2014
Hugely ambitious but lacking in any deep philosophical content this film shows us a future world that seems carved out of a notion of what it might look like from the 1960s, with a dose of a present day reality (iPods???).
Zero Theorem is not visually captivating enough to sit through without wanting to throw something at the screen because its philosophical premise is so tedious. A waste of huge talents (Tilda Swinton rapping in a Scottish brogue was probably funnier in private), a dishwater script with unbearable repeats of lines suggests simple ideas such as the futility of life being all for nothing are too difficult for the audience to grasp quicker.
Pretty awful. Agonisingly drawn out and a missed opportunity.
