Review of The Young Victoria (2009) by Chrisanne S — 30 Apr 2010
Take 2 - I read some history on Queen Victoria and then watched the movie again. It was much better the second time around once I knew more about all of the characters. It's a subtle movie though; very even all the way through. Don't expect any dramatic climaxes or intrigue as you might find with a movie about Henry VIII or Elizabeth I.
Take 1 - Looked properly Victorian but didn't hold my attention. I think it might have been more interesting to see the "Old Victoria" with her one million children and grandchildren arranging marriages left, right and centre throughout Europe. Still, it's nice to know that at least one female monarch had a happy marriage preceded by a romantic courtship.
