Review of The Young Victoria (2009) by Hector A — 30 Mar 2011
Despite a rather standard story and procedure, Victoria stays fresh with it's impeccable set designs, dressings, and costumes. also, the film has a very modern vibe while staying period and loyal to the painful procedures of royal life.
while, not as extreme in it's hipness as Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, the film finds it's livelihood in the resilent performance of Emily Blunt and it's deeply witty script. the costumes if the film are also gorgeous on the regal manner of the day while also coming off as fashionable to the current society.
the sets and props are all ridiculously beautious, rich in color and detail. never in my life have I seen headpeices look so good. the cast all does well, especially Miranda Richardson as Victoria's shallow mother and Mark Strong as a conniving yet protective aid.
The Young Victoria is well worth seeing for a quick, visually scrumptious history lesson.
