Review of The Young Victoria (2009) by Hannah H — 31 Dec 2013
Casted perfectly and directed perfectly, this period film about young Queen Victoria is stunning. From the costumes so pristinely tailored to the strong performances by the lovely-to-look-at Emily Blunt and handsome Rupert Friend, respectively.
I was also quite thrilled to hear my favorite classical piece (and Albert's, apparently) throughout the film, Franz Shubert's Swan Song. It is films like this one with such perfect costuming and moments, such as the Queen receiving the news of her accession composed perfectly in tune with the 1887 painting of the moment, that give the history geek inside of me so much satisfaction.
Historical storytelling is perhaps the hardest, and this film succeeds with flying and vivid colors.
