Review of The Young Lions (1958) by Nicolas A — 20 Feb 2011
Always have I liked war movies, so this one with Marlon Brando and Montgommery Clift in the leading roles I definitly had to see.
To be honest I had low expectations of this movie, don't know why exactly but I must say that its a hell of a movie. Marlon Brando's german accent wasnt really the best accent I have ever heard at all but his performance was magnificant. Dean Martin is the perfect cast to play the flamboyant Michael Whiteacre and I was also very pleased with Montgommery Clift his performance, which was probaly the best of the 3 leading actors. Also nice to see Lee Van Cleef as the typical bad guy (he's maybe not the bad guy but he isnt the nicest one either, you'll understand when you watch the movie). Edward Dmytryk did exellent on directing and focusing on the characters who are perfectly written by novelist Irwin Shaw.
