Review of The Yes Men Fix the World (2009) by Mike M — 06 Jun 2010
Though it may all be a show, still [the Yes Men] exhibit greater responsibility than those execs who duck these issues, or the journalists and security staff who fail to check their credentials. They, by contrast, have done their homework, enough to know, for example, exactly how many times the F-word (freedom) is used in Milton Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom".
(It's 374, if you're interested.) That sense of humour - their ability to grin and lay bare the idiocies and injustices of corporate capitalism - is what distinguishes them finally; that, and their optimism we can get out of the present mess, and their imagination in looking for the available exits.
If the Yes Men keep their enemies in big business close, they do so because they've recognised both sides' actions lead you to the same conclusion: it is astonishing what you can get away with these days while wearing a suit and a tie.
