Review of The Yellow Handkerchief (2009) by Michele S — 20 Aug 2010
The Yellow Snot Rag (ooops, I meant Handkerchief)...was one of those movies that helped pass the time because there is nothing else to do or watch. Now, let me start off by saying how Kristen Stewart continues to amaze me with her subpar acting capabilities.
KS school of acting:
Act frustrated?(action)--> Rub fingers through hair.
Act intrigued?(action)--> Bite lower lip and squint eyes.
Act any other emotion?(action)--> shrug shoulders and look around like you?re watching a fly.
Gosh, it sure makes me wish I pursued acting when I was younger. Heck, if she can make it...anyone can!
On to the meat of this review! William Hurt is a phenomenal actor as always. He plays Brett Hanson, a guy who just got out of jail after 6 years of incarceration. He ends up catching a ride with two strangers...Martine (KS) and Gordy (Eddie Redmayne). Gordy is quite strange and Martine likes to feel sorry for herself. As they journeyed to wherever (kinda confused on where the hell they were going)...they learned the story of Brett. There were flashbacks to when Brett met May (Maria Bello), his ex-wife. Little by little, we get bits and pieces of what happened between them and what led to his incarceration. These flashbacks are what really kept me hanging on. I really just wanted to see what exactly did happen for him to land in jail. They finally show the reason and I couldn't help but feel like, ?that's it? Okay, next scene." As the journey comes to an end...the two teens decide to help Brett follow through on something he was going to avoid doing (don't want to give anything away here so I'm being vague).
This is one of those movies where there is just a whole lot of dialogue with a plot moving at a very slow pace. William Hurt and Maria Bello really made the movie worth sitting through. Eddie?s character was even a bit interesting to watch...very quirky fellow. KS, well, I already covered her contribution to this movie. For me, the movie was just okay.
