Review of The Year My Parents Went on Vacation (2006) by Gabriel B — 10 Jun 2008
Well..... I'm a little biased because I enjoy foreign movies.
I don't know much about Brazil, so I found this movie quite interesting. It was a little slow moving, but that seems typical with foriegn movies. I found myself wondering if it was based on a true story.
The boy, Mauro, was excellent. The movie was shown from his perspective, and it had some very funny moments which kept it from being too sad or depressing, cause the scenes were muted, everything was faded or kind of bland in the coloring which added a kind of oppression. The light moments were great!
It's interesting to note that even in 1970 soccer, or football, was huge. I liked the parallels to the game amd the boy's life. It was very well done.
Two thumbs up for sure :).
