Review of The Yards (2000) by ?T®I§H? — 14 Sep 2008
Not your typical hollywood popcorn movie by any stretch and that can be a great thing. The movie is gritty and is practically cut from real life, that's how good the acting and cinematography is. Poor Mark Wahlberg gets out of jail and is sucked back into the life of crime no thanks to his best buddy (Joaquin Phoenix).
The Yards meaning train yards reveals corruption even in the unlikely of industries; this one runned by shady owner and Wahlberg's uncle, James Caan. So, Mark Wahlberg gets pinned with a crime he didn't commit, a murder no less, and the movie's intensity goes up several notches as an internal family dispute ensues involving attempted murder and betrayal.
The ending is good which re-establishes the notion that some people truly get what they deserve and some don't.
