Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Connor C — 21 Feb 2015
The Wrestler is deeply moving and heart-wrenching, exploring themes of redemption, loss, aging, and humanity's weakness. It shows our affinity to create heroes and then forget that they are human. Mickey Rourke gives an astounding, shocking and heartbreaking performance as a formerly famous wrestler trying as hard as he can to keep alive, stay positive and not give in.
The tragedy of his situation is that no matter what he tries, he can't, in the end, escape his fate of letting the only people left that idolize him force him back in the ring despite having a fatal condition.
