Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Albert K — 08 Mar 2012
In the words of the Randy "The Ram" Robinson, 'the 80s were great; the 90s sucked' which I just had to laugh at. Randy is a dysfunctional wrestler who lives in a van, past his days of glory, now earning a living showing off his moves to die hard wrestling fans in community centres.
Now he is forced in his retirement by a heart attack, he decides to reconnect with his daughter that hates him and along the way form a relationship with an exotic dancer. Despite its downbeat story, there are some truly great scenes in this film and Mickey Rourke gives a sensational performance as the ram.
This is a funny, heartfelt, emotional drama, with added stunts and reminds me of my childhood watching wrestling matches at my friend's house.
