Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Michelle T — 27 Apr 2013
A great come-back movie dfor Mickey Rourke who delivers a poignant performance. The parallels between the actor himself and the title character, forced to face personal consequences of a lifetime of excess and burned bridges, are profound.
Great action scenes and a peek behind-the-scenes at the wrestling world. The viewer can empathize with the wrestler, even though his attempts to reconcile poverty, loneliness and loss of glory are pathetic.
Parallel heartwrenching performances by Marisa Tomei and Even Rachel Wood add depth and tragedy.
