Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Seth Y — 08 Aug 2014
The Wrestler is a heart-wrenching, downer of a flick. That being said, it's absolutely phenomenal. Mickey Rourke stars as a past-his-prime professional wrestler who is advised to retire after a serious health scare.
Unfortunately for him, he's never really known a life outside of the ring. As all this is going on, he's trying to reconcile with his daughter and get closer to a stripper he has become attached to.
Rourke is truly fantastic in this movie. It's an unforgettable and impressive performance. If you have any knowledge of the pro wrestling business, you know that this is an accurate look into some of the things that actually go down.
However, you don't have to be a wrestling fan to appreciate the beauty of this film. It's absolutely fantastic.
