Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Guillermo C — 30 Jan 2016
Aranovsky can do these broken character studies in his sleep at this point. But can he elevate them to great cinema again a la Requiem for a Dream? Eh. How bout make The Black Swan Meets the Ram/Pi Guy? Call it Aronovsky's Avengers! Maybe then there will be a story worth watching more than once.
Also, Mickey Rourke is awesome here and reminds me of my brother quite a bit in this role. So there's that.
