Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Adam N — 11 Oct 2014
This movie is fantastic. Mickey Rourke gives a fantastic, heart wrenching portrayal of a man past his prime who refuses to accept that his time is over. The pro wrestling sequences feel like real matches, but you also see the brutality of a "fake" sport in chilling detail.
The chemistry between the actors is top notch, and all three leads give great performances. Don't come into this movie expecting a happy ending; this movie is a tragedy in every sense of the word.
But if you want a beautifully made film, look no further than Darren Aronofsky's masterpiece, The Wrestler.
